I made this very quickly as a guide for someone, i figured it might be useful to some people on here too.

I find it easier to sketch out proportions by breaking shapes of the form down into simple geometrical shapes.
Blue lines represent the skeleton and the red lines are just the main forms in the body.

It isn't at all perfect, but its really a basic guide for people who are not familiar with drawing horses. 

This is just a generic horse but horse anatomy can vary quite drastically from breed to breed, so references are important!
